Not used to such tiny hotel rooms and probably never will get used to it - it's like staying in my closet at home. But that aside, IBIS was clean NO SIGN OF BEDBUGS anywhere and the staff was great!

The position of the hotel, with an amazing view over the citadel. The staff was amazing, they helped us anytime we asked them, even booking a taxi for us in the evening for the next day. The size of the room was acceptable, very clean, especially the bathroom. We had dinner one day and the food was amazing ☺️ and the wine also.

Most visitors to Carcassonne come here for one thing: to see its fairytale, UNESCO World Heritage-listed castle sitting majestically on a hill east of the city.
Spectacularly lit at night, this Cité is a restored medieval fortress with 52 towers, 2 outer walls covering almost 2 miles, and a drawbridge providing access to a keep. Twice daily there are medieval jousting displays within the walls. This intriguing castle has enchanted so many that it has appeared in novels, films and even inspired a board game.
Some Carcassonne hotels, bars and restaurants can be found in the Cité but the majority are in the Ville Basse below. The stone Old Bridge, also lit at night, links it to the city center over the Aude River.
Central Carcassonne also has its own sights including a fine art museum and a cathedral with impressive stained-glass windows. But its best feature is the South of France way of life, with relaxed bars and sidewalk cafes, some serving the local speciality – cassoulet. Other slow-paced attractions include boat trips along the Canal du Midi and visiting villages like Minerve in the surrounding hills.
Served by national and low cost carriers, Carcassonne Airport is only 3 miles from the city center.

The medieval citadel is well worth a visit, and tour around the Chateau Comtal, however spolit with the array of shops selling souvenirs. We visited first May Bank Holiday week, and found many restaurants closed, and the menus limited to the same at each restaurant. The town has a square with restaurants, supermarket and cafes, again with limited menus.
Canal du Midi, towpath was over grown and a lot of homeless people sitting around drinking. The boat trips were not running at this time. The river was pretty but limited to walking along as there is no path..

Poor trip reconnaisance on my part, thinking I could navigate by car in the city center of a medieval town. Six inches of clearance on either side of our rental car as we cautiously crept down the one way streets. No parking except in an underground garage ten minutes walk away.
The castle is a twenty minute walk from city center, the last 1/4 mile uphill. Great to view the citadel walls and turrets from a distance. Inside the walls, hard to tell which cobblestones and masonry were from the middle ages, and which were 25 year old patches. Lots of ticky-tacky souvenir shops, some appealing bistros/restaurants, a fabulous 800 year old church, and lots and lots of visitors in late April. Can’t imagine what it will be like this summer.

Carcassonne is probably done in 2 days, one for old, one for new. If you are in the old town I would definitely book a restaurant for evening meal as they were often fully booked when we asked, and this is April. Also this time of year we noticed it was very quiet in the week but everything seemed to open up on Friday for the weekend.

Carcassonne is a small walkable city with a romantic castle and a lot of history! Lots of restaurants and shops to explore. Enjoy the outdoor market on Saturday morning, between the old walled city and the "new" city. Bring good walking shoes! Friendly and helpful people even if you don't speak French.

First on the visit list is the beautiful medieval castle,...
First on the visit list is the beautiful medieval castle, listed on UNESCO World Heritage registry, Its history is well documented and presented, the staff at the castle are all so friendly and kind, they tried to give me very personal time during the visit even though my exit after the closing hour was a bit protracted because I had taken a wrong "route" - wandered into the last section of the visit first and did the exploration in the reverse order! The town itself was bucolic and relaxed, clean, serene, and safe. All the people I encountered (* except one lady, who probably was not from this town!) from shops to restaurants to tourist office to streets were very pleasant and honest (when I innocently picked up oranges to buy in a basket, for example, the fruit shop lady spontaneously inspected each pieces carefully and pointed out one of them was slightly damaged, and went to pick up a better replacement for me, which she didn't have to do!) There were a lots of region specific products, as well as international products (such as Italian Truffles, Italian fur products!), interesting and delicious food to eat, and the climate is generally much warmer than other parts of France. Sunny happy rational place like this, which retained "good old France" aspects restores in a visitor's heart rare hopes for humanity! It also seemed that there is a good size of international community with expats who settled down. You can experience exotic encounters here, so, I would not say this town is a closed up, hermetic, mono-cultural location, nor it is xenophobic.
Best continental breakfast ever in a quiet green courtyard. Home made yoghurt, jam and fresh melon etc. Our host Jean Luc was an extremely friendly and helpful host, the place was lovely and clean and our guest bedroom had a king size bed, great mattress and with a super bathroom. The location was great for easy walk to town centre, longer walk to the old medieval city and taxi to/from airport around 10 Euro. There is great public transport system (go to ATAC office for timetables etc) around town and to the old city so no need for a car
Fabulous location for exploring the medieval city, Carcassonne old town and new. Easy access to the trains for further afield exploring eg Toulouse & Narbonne which are both lovely. The gite was very well equipped and to a high specification and immaculately clean. Our hosts were both charming and attentive to our needs but we actually didn't need to contact them as we had all we needed on hand. The stop for the shuttle bus to the airport is a ten minute walk away which makes life very easy.
Very old medieval town, very close to the old fortifications. we learned we should stay in a town longer, get to know it a bit. Also - big lesson here - Best Western does it right in France! I have to admit to myself that I had some negative preconceptions about the brand- but those are gone for good! I don’t know how BW is in the States though. Both BW hotels in France (Nîmes and Carcassonne) were wonderful.
Lovely hotel in narrow Street with plenty of little bars & restaurants, tucked away under medieval city walls. A great location for either old or new city , stroll along river or take a boat trip on canal, plenty of choice 😀.Hotel has a pretty courtyard garden in which to have breakfast or just sit and relax. Rooms a good size & kept spotlessly clean ! We had a great time, what's not to like . 😀😀👍
The more I stay at Ibis hotels in France, the more I realize I like them. My room was clean and comfortable...and the bathroom had a little extra flair with a fancy sink and great paint job. The hotel is quite easy to get to from La Gare and is on 2 different Carcassonne bus routes. The hotel is within walking distance of the Medieval City, which was the primary reason I visited the town.
The location has a beautiful view of the walled city. We did not have a room on that side, but enjoyed the view whenever we wanted from the large terrace and dining room.
The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Our waiter for several meals, Mokhtar, treated us like family and left an beautiful impression on us for this hotel. Flawless stay!
Beautiful Hotel, in the best location you could have in Carcassonne. We could see the Castle from our room. It was an mesmerizing view. It was even more beautiful then in the picture. Very clean and specious room, everything was beyond my expectations. A big plus were the lockers where we could leave our bags after we checked out. Would gladly recommend.
It was easy to access the hotel. Although we arrived late, there was a person who helped us check-in, park the car and even made us dinner. The hotel is right across the castle, which is a big bonus, because we didn't have to walk much to access the old city. Breakfast was served at the table by two lovely ladies. They were very welcoming and helpful.
Location right in center of the old city, kids loved the magic of the city. Staff were excellent and provided us with details of what to see and do also where to dine. Ideal for visiting the old castle and cathedral only 2 minutes from each.recommend this hotel for everyone. Great break and treat for children.
The hotel is traditional and well located. We were well looked after on our arrival. The bed was very comfortable - I had my best night's sleep for ages! It is located on the edge of the old town with restaurants and shops close at hand. On-site parking was welcome as we were on an overnight stop only.
Walking distance to the medieval city and old town. The room was big, comfortable and the children loved the bunkbeds. The hotel decor is fun, with lots of references to knights and Cavaliers. Parking is free of charge. The breakfast was good.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly hotel to stay in Carcassonne, look no further. This hotel is excellent in every aspect. Located within the castle and the service is impeccable. I’d love the bar by the beautiful pool!
The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very comfortable with a nice view. The hotel's terrace provides a beautiful space to relax at night and and excellent view to the medieval city.
Stylish, calm and very professional, this small hotel is located just outside the (better) gate to awesome Carcassonne old city. Staff was helpful, our time here was very enjoyable.
Beautiful olde world hotel in the medieval city of Carssaconne. It’s location within the walls was outstanding. Beautiful public spaces and great pool.
